Abstract: |
This textbook is part of the field of Political Sociology with references to the Sociology of Gender and Youth. It uses empirical material and approaches from the field of Political Behavior, seeking a combined approach of gender and age in order to illuminate the political character of social actors with emphasis on youth. It deals with the social category of young people and explores trends and changes related to the political patterns of young women and men in the 21st century. A gender perspective permeates the whole approach, as a necessary condition for an inclusive approach to socio-political reality. It is based on a wealth of data from research designed and implemented by the two authors, as well as other researchers, both at EKKE and NKUA, as well as on studies included in the international literature and in international databases. It focuses on age and gender, since the latter constitute two very important parameters that influence the formation and expression of political identities: Age in the sense of generation is determined by the period climate in which the early socialization of each different generation takes place, while gender determines and is determined by different socializing experiences that the subjects have, depending on whether they are boys or girls, in a context of deeply unequal gender relations.
