Abstract: |
The present book delves into a truly unique and promising domain intersecting various scientific fields, such as healthcare and emerging technologies. The continuous advancements in both healthcare and information and communication technologies bring significant innovations, often surpassing the bounds of imagination. The rapid pace of technological innovation adoption in the healthcare sector is poised to address previously insurmountable challenges and questions. Challenges such as population aging, the digital divide, the accumulation of vast amounts of data, economic crises, and the degradation of the healthcare system can only be tackled with the appropriate adoption of new technologies. Naturally, such an approach also requires a corresponding redesign in the organization of the various healthcare providers (e.g., health ministries, healthcare institutions, hospitals, etc.).
The book is crafted to necessitate minimal prerequisite knowledge in both technological background and healthcare system organization, aiming to be understandable by individuals working in the broader healthcare field (e.g., nursing staff, administrative personnel, paramedical staff, medical personnel, etc.), as well as professionals in the field of computer science who wish to engage with the broader subject of health informatics, system design, and organization, among others.
The uniqueness of the current book lies in its initial orientation, which does not demand specialized knowledge to be followed by the reader, while simultaneously delving into several areas to provide the required knowledge and stimuli for further engagement. I hope this particular effort serves as a small contribution and ignites the flame required for various stakeholders, especially students of healthcare and computer science professions, to become interested in the challenging yet intriguing realm of Information and Communication Technologies in health and the organization of health services.
