Description:
Abstract:
The field of eHealth is broad and flexible. It encompasses a wide range of elements, from websites providing health-related informational content, telemedicine applications, and diagnosis support systems, to access to sensitive personal medical data, management platforms, resource-saving programs, and much more. eHealth has the potential to improve access and significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare services provided. At its core, eHealth is based on the access to and transfer of knowledge and expertise, through, for example, integrated hospital information systems, electronic medical records, etc. This chapter provides a definition of eHealth, presents examples of its application, and analyzes its distinctive characteristics. It also offers an extensive overview of the transformation of eHealth from its early emergence to the present day. The chapter concludes by recognizing eHealth as a tool for improving and reforming the healthcare system.
