Description:
Abstract:
The need for increasingly better and higher-quality healthcare services, combined with restricted budgets and rising patient expectations, is leading to the adoption of ICT-based solutions. These solutions are often accompanied by a redesign of the operational processes of the institutions that implement them. The benefits of using new technologies have long been highlighted in the international literature. A hospital environment is continuously bombarded with a vast volume of diverse data. Administrative, financial, technical, medical, nursing, paramedical, laboratory, and other resources serve as sources of information, which vary widely in format, volume, and requirements. This chapter discusses the implementation of Integrated Information Systems (IIS) in the healthcare sector, analyzing their distinctive characteristics. It includes an in-depth discussion of the challenges involved in the design, development, and adoption of such systems.
