Description:
Abstract:
The Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea are parts of the same marine system, although until recently they have been studied rather separately mainly for geopolitical reasons. Based on a synthesis of existing information, this monograph presents the main physico-geographical features of their marine and coastal sectors (including their geological evolution), the prevailing oceanographic conditions, as well as the pressures (natural and anthropogenic) on this integrated marine ecosystem. Through the scientific knowledge provided, with this monograph we hope to contribute also to the design and implementation of effective management plans to address any negative impacts due to human activities and climate change, with a view to the long-term sustainability of the Mediterranean-Black Sea marine ecosystem.
