Description:
Abstract:
The instructional technique of debate is a particularly structured form of the discussion technique. In it, two groups of learners who have opposing views on a topic are formed. The two sides, with the cooperation of their members, produce arguments that support their point of view. They present their arguments in the classroom and have a verbal confrontation with the other group. A discussion is provoked and at the end a convergence of opinions is attempted with the contribution of the teacher. In one variation of the instructional technique, the opposing groups are three, with the third group advocating a possible intermediate view, such as “agreement with reservation”. The instructional technique is developed with an example on the topic on “Motives for learning”.
