Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, the instructional technique “Jigsaw” is presented. In the present version of the technique, initially, the studied topic is divided and assigned by section to groups. Each group that studies a part of content becomes an "expert" on it, gathering evidence through a purposeful search on printed and digital resources. Each group discusses and records what they consider important. In a second phase, the learners move and form new groups. Each of these is made up of one or two members from all the original groups so that each new group can study the whole topic. In the context of the second groups, the representative of each group presents to their new group the section they have prepared, based on the work created by the original groups. Then the learners assemble all the parts of the studied topic. With mutual teaching, the pedagogical interaction between the members of the groups is strengthened and an overall result is produced from each new group. Group projects can be discussed at the whole class, for reflection and critical thinking development. The jigsaw is developed with the application example, “Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences” and is accompanied by empirical data, gathered during its implementation in teaching.
