Theoretical and research data are listed and analyzed, as well as educational issues for rectangular surfaces measurement. Specifically, the main topics of rectangular surfaces measurement are identified, the importance of the perception of these topics for children of the first school age is presented, as well as the abilities and the difficulties of the children for these topics are analyzed. Additionally, elements for the teaching design, of each topic, are listed and captured the particularities of the main themes for the design of materials and activities, as important issues to be considered in an inquiry-based mathematics education.
