Abstract:
Traditionally, libraries have exchanged metadata in domain-specific formats to both facilitate copy cataloguing and to inform libraries and their users about the contents of their collections. One of the most widespread and "classic" formats that allow this exchange is MARC (MAchine Readable Cataloguing). This chapter will provide a detailed presentation of the MARC21 standard, which is the main resource description tool in libraries around the world.
