Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, there is a summary of the concept of organizational change and then the discussion specializes in the external and internal factors that today push cooperative organizations to change. The question of the profitability of cooperatives, which has dominated the relevant discussion and reflects the characteristics of a strong, international trend to restructure them, is thoroughly analyzed. An analytical typology of the forms resulting from the above trend of change is presented, which constitutes a deviation from the traditional cooperative organization. Finally, the phenomena of degeneration and demutualization of cooperatives are explained, as a consequence of a series of changes leading to their dissolution or organizational transformation and their transformation into hybrid or directly conventional business organizations. Finally, the conditions for a reversal of this trend and regeneration of cooperatives are reflected. This chapter is complemented by comprehension exercises for the student.
