Abstract:
This chapter presents in more detail the basic concepts and historical developments of linked data and open data, with a focus on the library community. Next, the technical characteristics of linked data are explained, followed by a description of the legal framework for open licensing (access). Finally, some challenges that will arise in the coming years on the way to an ecosystem of open-linked data for libraries are mentioned.
