Description:
Abstract:
Examples of humidification processes are outlined, with emphasis placed on the cooling tower. The various psychrometric parameters are defined and analyzed and the psychrometric chart is introduced. The wet-bulb temperature is discussed as a prototype of simultaneous heat and mass transfer. Adiabatic cooling is considered and the size of a humidification vessel is estimated by integration of differential mass and energy balances. The design and rating of cooling towers are analyzed in detail. The role of humidity in geophysical flows is introduced.
