Abstract:
The diet analysis and reconstruction of the dietary patterns of prehistoric population are the main topics of this chapter. The use of stable isotopes, dental pathologies and the use of dental microware study protocols are presented, along with technical information about the application and limitations of the methods. The importance of paleodietary reconstruction in comprehending the biological evolution and historical background of prehistoric communities is furthermore emphasized. In addition, a number of historical, archaeological, and anthropological examples pertaining to the gathering, preparing, and processing of food are discussed, along with how these aspects are influenced by the environment, technology, economy, social structure, and ideology.
