Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, the main processes through which events are transformed into problems are examined, along with the key approaches that form the genealogy of public issues. On the one hand, the chapter explores approaches that discuss the stages of development of social problems, and on the other hand, those that situate social problems within broader social theories. Specifically, it examines the functionalist approach (aspects of social pathology and social disorganization), the conflict approach (aspects of Marxist theory and value conflict), and the symbolic interactionist approach (aspects of labeling and social protest).
