Abstract:
The exploration of the dialogue between literature and various sciences—such as sociology, psychology, anthropology, philosophy, cultural studies, as well as medicine, the natural sciences, or law—is another area of focus within Comparative Literature. The interdisciplinary comparative approach centers on extra-literary phenomena, which can be read as significant factors in shaping the character of specific literary works. Comparative Literature examines the conditions under which such texts are formed and highlights the influences, interactions, or interfaces between literature and the respective discipline under consideration. This discussion will include references to intertextuality (Chapter 7) and interculturality (Chapter 9). The chapter will conclude by linking theory with practice through the presentation of indicative comparative interpretative case studies—for example, an analysis of the concept of law in the works of Kafka and Kazantzakis.
