Abstract: |
Regarding the textbook entitled "Comparative Literature. Theory and Practice", comparative literature examines literature from an international, transnational perspective and studies its intercultural, intercultural and interdisciplinary contexts. This subject is now an integral part of the curricula of literature departments (Greek and foreign language) in Greece as well. The textbook has the form of a textbook and has been designed as material to be used in the teaching of this course. It is addressed to students of the abovementioned departments, without any prerequisite knowledge, in order to introduce them to the subject of comparative literature, its aims and methods and to strengthen their critical thinking in the direction of an international view of literary phenomena. The book consists of 12 chapters, which form 12 distinct thematic sections, which address and cover all the basic practices of contemporary comparative literature and its main fields of practice. Specifically, they are: 1) What is comparative literature? 2) The history of the discipline. 3) The history of comparative literature. 4) Recruitment and impact. 5) Themes and patterns. 6) Literary genres and eras. 7) Comparative literature and translation 8) Discursiveness. 9) Transculturalism. 10) Interculturality. 11) Literature and science. 12) Comparative literature and globalisation. All chapters have the same structure, consisting of three parts: They begin with a theoretical part that gradually introduces the student to the issue under consideration, followed by a practical part with exemplary comparative analyses, and conclude with a summary of the main points, in-depth exercises and an indicative bibliography. An effort has been made to ensure that a large part of the bibliography refers to reputable Greek and foreign-language electronic resources in order to enhance interactivity.
