Description:
Abstract:
The purpose of this chapter is to present the United Nations (UN) system. The presentation of its main organs will be accompanied by a critical analysis of their role and contribution to global political governance, as well as the inherent weaknesses and dysfunctions of the system. Additionally, the analysis will focus on the open nature of the system, particularly the regional yet complementary role of organized interests and non-governmental organizations, as well as its bureaucratic structures. Consequently, Chapter 5 will not be limited to the analysis of central issues of “high politics” but will also address matters of “low politics,” such as development, humanitarian aid, human rights, the environment, and culture.
