Abstract:
In Chapter 9, the effectiveness of curriculum goals related to natural sciences in early childhood education is tested through theatrical expression. The experiments were conducted based on two different curriculum programs. One of these programs presented the goals as those of educators (the Greek program), while the other presented them as children's goals (the Scottish program). The theatrical performances developed for various content areas (motion, heat, phase changes, plant growth, etc.) are presented, utilizing various puppetry techniques. The significant differences in results between the two different goal approaches are discussed. This discussion highlights issues related to curriculum programs, focusing on their empirically observed deconstruction from the "hidden curriculum." Following this discussion, design exercises for theatrical performances are provided for a series of goals formulated with reference to children.
