Abstract: |
In Chapter 5, an application is described where trainee kindergarten teachers attempt to theatrically represent scientific ideas about light. The description includes the objectives, design, implementation, production, and evaluation of the entire instructional sequence. Emphasis is placed on the initial autonomous effort to construct scientific concepts through laboratory activities and the subsequent attempt to represent these ideas through shadow theatre. As a bridge, it was assumed that the common knowledge of image production in both fields could function effectively. The evaluation indicated that this knowledge was a good bridge (techniques from the laboratory were transferred to the theatrical production). However, the theatrical activities overshadowed the laboratory ones, significantly transforming the scientific ideas and raising the issue of changing the initial approach to scientific concepts. Finally, exercises for constructing hypotheses that could solve application problems are proposed.
