Description:
Abstract:
This chapter aims to explore the relationship between ideology and translation and to study its different manifestations as they are reflected in the contemporary world. The first part will present the theoretical background of the chapter, namely the Descriptive and Operational approaches to the translation process (Toury 1995; Hermans 1999; Schäffner 2003, 2005) as well as some basic principles of Critical Discourse Analysis. In the second part, the analysis of examples through an authentic corpus of texts of political and journalistic discourse has been provided. These are predominantly ideologically charged texts in which the different translation choices will be sought and an attempt will be made to categorise and standardise the techniques recorded. The chapter concludes with some practical applications that will allow further practice for the student.
