Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, linguistically oriented approaches to the translation phenomenon as well as linguistic issues related to translation are studied. In particular, the concept and nature of equivalence and, more specifically, the positions developed over time by various translation scholars (R. Jakobson, E. Nida, P. Newmark) are examined. A definition of equivalence at the level of language rather than at the level of language systems is also attempted, based on A. Culioli's theory of verbal processes. Furthermore, translation techniques are presented based on the model of J.P. Vinay and J. Darbelnet and textual genre are studied as a factor of translation choices. Finally, a typology of translation errors is presented.
