Description:
Abstract:
This textbook is intended for undergraduate and graduate students who wish to delve into the subject of Biological (Physical) Anthropology. It aims to introduce students to the basic research methodologies used by anthropologists. It is intended not only for students in the Departments of Biology and Biosciences, but also for students in other fields, such as Archaeology or Forensic Science. It can be divided into three main sections. The first section (Chapters 1 to 6) deals with the human skeleton and the information that researchers can glean from studying it (age, sex, diseases, etc.). The second section (Chapters 7 and 8) introduces students to the ways in which human diversity can be studied, either in skeletal material or in living individuals. Finally, the next four chapters present the evolution of primates and humans, and students become familiar with the use of phylogenetic methods. Along with the exercises, students are trained in specific topics, such as key construction, tree construction, software use, and statistical processing.
