Abstract: |
It includes a simple but very important experimental exercise for studying the phenomena of interference and diffraction of light, aiming to confirm the wave nature of light. Interference fringes are observed on the screen. From measurements of the distances between the interference fringes (both among themselves and from the light source), calculations are made of the laser light wavelength, the width of the slit of an unknown optical grating, and the magnitude of the momentum uncertainty (Planck’s constant) using the single-slit diffraction pattern. This also confirms Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle.
