Abstract

To βιβλίο αφορά έναν πλήρη εργαστηριακό οδηγό για τον SQL Server. Αποτελείται από δύο μέρη, από τα οποία το πρώτο μέρος αφορά το γνωστικό αντικείμενο των βάσεων δεδομένων, ενώ το δεύτερο μέρος αφορά το γνωστικό αντικείμενο των Αποθηκών και της Εξόρυξης Δεδομένων. Το πρώτο μέρος του βιβλίου περιγράφει τις βασικές λειτουργίες και δυνατότητες που προσφέρονται από ένα σύστημα διαχείρισης βάσεων δεδομένων. Συγκεκριμένα, στο πρώτο μέρος του βιβλίου περιγράφονται σε πέντε κεφάλαια οι δυνατότητες του SQL Server 2014 Management Studio. Ο SQL Server είναι ένα ισχυρό εργαλείο που περιέχει ένα πλήθος δυνατοτήτων, όπως οι εντολές που αφορούν τη γλώσσα ορισμού δεδομένων (Data Definition Language), εντολές της γλώσσας χειρισμού δεδομένων (Data Manipulation Language), και τη γλώσσα προγραμματισμού Transact-SQL για τη δημιουργία αποθηκευμένων διαδικασιών, εναυσμάτων και συναλλαγών. Κάθε κεφάλαιο από τα πέντε του πρώτου μέρους του βιβλίου περιγράφει λεπτομερώς μία από τις παραπάνω δυνατότητες του SQL Server. Τo δεύτερο μέρος του βιβλίου περιγράφει τις βασικές τεχνικές εξόρυξης δεδομένων και τη διαδικασία δημιουργίας κύβων σε αποθήκες δεδομένων. Στο δεύτερο μέρος του βιβλίου περιγράφονται οι παραπάνω τεχνικές, μέσα από τη χρήση του SQL Server 2014 Business Intelligence. Συγκεκριμένα, στα πέντε κεφάλαια του δεύτερου μέρους γίνεται η περιγραφή τεχνικών εξόρυξης όπως decision trees, clustering, association rules, και time series. Τέλος, οι αποθήκες δεδομένων εξετάζονται στο τελευταίο κεφάλαιο του βιβλίου.

The book is a complete lab guide for SQL Server. It consists of two parts, of which the first part deals with the database subject, while the second part deals with the subject of Warehousing and Data Mining. The first part of the book describes the basic functions and capabilities offered by a database management system. Specifically, the first part of the book describes the features of SQL Server 2014 Management Studio in five chapters. SQL Server is a powerful tool that contains a multitude of capabilities, including Data Definition Language commands, Data Manipulation Language commands, and the Transact-SQL programming language for creating stored procedures, triggers, and transactions. Each of the five chapters in the first part of the book describes one of these SQL Server features in detail. The second part of the book describes basic data mining techniques and the process of creating cubes in data warehouses. The second part of the book describes these techniques through the use of SQL Server 2014 Business Intelligence. Specifically, the five chapters in the second part describe mining techniques such as decision trees, clustering, association rules, and time series. Finally, data warehouses are discussed in the last chapter of the book.
