Security technologies on the World Wide Web
Authors: Georgiadis, Christos

Description:
Abstract:
This book contains two chapters devoted to issues related to security on the World Wide Web and E-commerce applications. The first chapter presents the basic security technologies: encryption, digital signatures, and public key and privilege management infrastructures. Cryptography is now widely accepted as the most essential security tool in Web-based transactions. Two important applications of cryptography are encryption and digital signatures. Encryption can ensure that information being transmitted remains confidential. Digital signatures help to authenticate the origin of data and detect data tampering. Further capabilities are offered through public key infrastructures, which, by issuing identity certificates, can support a large part of the required security functions.
