Description:
Abstract:
The normal distribution has a prominent position both in Probability Theory and in Statistics, because the random variables expressing mathematically many problems follow a normal distribution, but also, because by applying the central limit theorem, the sample mean follows asymptotically the normal distribution. For this reason this book has devoted an entire chapter in testing hypothesis concerning the parameters, mean and variance, of the normal distribution. In chapters 2 and 3 the normal distribution was partially studied. In the second chapter, the tests were simple, while in the third chapter, the tests were composite, in the case where one of the two parameters were known. In this chapter we covered almost all cases of the parameters of one and two normal distributions.
Table of Contents:
Generalized likelihood tests for the mean of a normal distribution -- Generalized likelihood tests for the means of two independent samples -- Generalized likelihood test statistics for the means of two dependent samples -- Generalized likelihood tests for variance — Exercises.
