Description:
Abstract:
Mammography (MG) can aid in the diagnosis of a breast mass before it becomes palpable. Thus, MG can detect very small abnormalities or characteristic microcalcifications, and this is precisely its value in secondary prevention, i.e., the subclinical detection of cancer. Although the method has been challenged very recently (in relatively large studies), it seems that it will be very difficult to lose its value. In women at high risk for breast cancer, MG can be combined with magnetic resonance imaging. In the case of screening for ovarian and endometrial cancer, there are several proposals that need to be (re)evaluated for their sensitivity, specificity, etc. (in large populations) before they are included in national screening programs.
