Description:
Abstract:
This chapter analyzes the operation of the electroencephalograph (EEG). It presents internationally accepted standards for the selection of electrode placements on the scalp surface. The rhythms of the electroencephalogram are described. Basic circuits for signal amplification and filtering in the EEG are provided. The chapter explains the brain's evoked potential (EP) and the specific requirements that its recording imposes on the EEG system. Innovative non-invasive techniques for recording electrical biosignals, with an emphasis on electroencephalographic signals, are presented for producing images of the electrical activity of body tissues. The theoretical physical-mathematical background of these techniques (solving the inverse bioelectromagnetic problem) is analyzed, and applications in modern functional brain tomography systems are discussed.
