Description:
Abstract:
Chapter 8 explores the space of modernity as shaped by the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century. Artists of this period, deeply influenced by technological innovation, electrification, and new modes of transportation, began to reconsider the nature of space itself. Confronted with a radically transforming world and the invention of photography, they questioned the spatial frameworks inherited from the past. How could space be reimagined, subverted, or transcended? In response, artists sought to break free from the confines of the canvas, experimenting with three-dimensional forms, unconventional materials, and innovative approaches that reflected the dynamic, fragmented, and industrialized nature of modern life.
