The topic of this chapter is reading acquisition. The chapter starts with a discussion of single-word reading and reading comprehension. Then, it continues with data from typical and atypical development on the relation between reading, phonological awareness, letter-sound knowledge and orthographic transparency. The last section examines data from Greek-speaking children.
