| Abstract: |
The second chapter presents data on lexical development in children with typical and atypical language skills. It begins with a brief discussion of semantics and the main characteristics of a word. It then focuses on lexical development (stages, word characteristics, mental lexical processes) and on the factors that impact a child’s lexical development. The interface between lexical and phonological development is also discussed. The closing section presents data on lexical ability in children with language difficulties and on vocabulary intervention.
