| Abstract: |
The first teaching unit (TU1) of the book aims to introduce the reader to the science of Ecology of Terrestrial Ecosystems. This is attempted by analyzing the concepts of Ecology and of Ecosystem over time and also the definition of Ecology is formulated. As the concept of Ecosystems is fundamental in Ecology, their spatial dimension is analyzed. In addition, several types and principles of the various aspects of Applied Ecology (Industrial Ecology, Landscape Ecology, etc.) are described.
