Sound and timbre in practice
Authors: Georgiadou, Ria (Elli-Maria)
Reviewer: Tsouchlos, Nikos
Description:
Abstract:
This chapter begins with a presentation of some fundamental principles of acoustics (sound wave, periodicity, sinusoidal oscillation, frequency, amplitude, pitch, harmonics, frequency spectrum, formants), as well as an analysis of timbre, focusing on wind instruments. These are followed by a series of games, explorations, training routines and exercises which aim at the development of a differentiated sense of instrumental timbre and blend in wind instrument and the sensible and deliberate use of timbre and blend as a means of interpretation.
