Aquaponics in organic aquaculture
Authors: Mente, Elena
Description:
Abstract:
This chapter reviews the aquaponics and organic aquaculture and their prospects and contribution to sustainable aquaculture. The European Union (EU) regulations do not allow the marketing of plants grown hydroponically as organic. This rule also applies to plants grown in an aquaculture system. However, fish reared under an aquaculture system can be sold as organic, provided that the rearing complies with the legislation on organic aquaculture.
