Chapter 13 approaches racial and ethnic origin on the one hand, and religion and beliefs on the other, as prohibited grounds of discrimination. Despite their specificities, these grounds of discrimination have one thing in common: they are crucial in shaping human identity. The individual sections of the chapter examine how EU law, the law of the Council of Europe, as well as some representative national legal orders, deal with discrimination based on race, ethnic origin, religion and beliefs.
