Chapter 6: Legal framework for the protection of the environment
Authors: Protopapas, Angelos
Description:
Abstract:
Chapter 6 describes the evolution of the legal framework for environmental protection in Greece from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. It then presents the corresponding legislation of the European Union as well as the evolution of public policies for environmental protection. As every anthropogenic activity, which aims to improve the living standards of society and increase the wealth of the country, undoubtedly has adverse effects on the natural environment, countries introduced procedures to authorize projects and activities through the practice of Environmental Impact Assessments.
