The hydrocarbons of Africa. The new “Wild West”
Authors: Lazou, Vasiliki
Description:
Abstract:
Chapter 12 deals with the hydrocarbons in Africa, one of the fastest-growing sources of oil and gas mainly for the U.S. market, as part of U.S. efforts to reduce dependence on Gulf oil and OPEC countries. Based on the example of Nigeria, the paradox of abundance is explained and concepts such as the resource curse or the "Dutch disease" are analyzed.
