Chapter 6 analyzes the golden age of oil from the end of World War II to the first oil crisis of 1973. It refers to the energy crisis of the early post-war period in Europe, the oil dimension of the Marshall Plan and the transition of Western European states to the oil economy. The strategic emergence of the Middle East is being monitored and the new dimension of energy security is being explored as oil becomes a vital commodity for the Western world.
