Abstract: |
In the previous chapter, the genealogy of locus (place) and its implications as they emerge as structural components for architectural design were discussed. In this chapter we will delve deeper into the study of landscape, based on its fundamental properties. As cultural construct, landscape can imply language, guidance, desire, as well as a series of contextual aspects such as metaphor and allegory. Such properties attributed to landscape elicit narratives and parallel worlds within architectural thought, allowing for a complex layering of meaning in architectural design. Landscape, a cultural carrying substructure, offers indentations and fabrications which may nurture architectural design as landform.
