Religious-Christian poetry and its genres - The content of Byzantine Hymnography
Authors: Zervoudaki, Alexandra
Description:
Abstract:
Brief presentation of the main genres of religious-Christian poetry, personal and liturgical. Through its main representatives and excerpts of their texts, religious personal poetry is presented up to the 7th century. Then liturgical poetry - hymnography, which flourishes differently during four time periods, is presented. The first of these periods, namely the hymnography of the Archaic Church, is also examined through the most important surviving texts, since this period has not been associated with the name of known hymn writers.
