Abstract:
After a brief introduction to the legislation governing Environmental Impact Studies in chapter two, key points that were milestones for this institution such as the Climate Change Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol, the Paris Agreement and the Marrakesh Conference are presented. The relationship between international law and EU environmental law in shaping European environmental policy is developed. What follows is a review of the historical development of European environmental legislation and contemporary views on environmental protection and sustainable development. The basic environmental principles are then commented on, namely the prevention principle, the precautionary principle, the "polluter pays" principle, the principle of combating pollution at source, the principle of good environmental governance, the principle of sustainable development, the principle of the environmental acquis, the principle of respect for carrying capacity, the principle of proportionality, the principle of subsidiarity, etc. The financial tools of environmental policy are presented, and more specific the direct financial tools and intervention tools for the protection of the environment. Finally, reference is made to the sources of national environmental law and the Environmental Impact Assessment legislation concerning projects and activities.
