Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, the issue of Lifelong Learning is examined, as well as the educational role of libraries within this framework. The concepts of Formal, Non-formal, and Informal Education are explained, along with the specific characteristics of each. Libraries can have a central role in all three types of lifelong learning. However, for each of them, the purpose, objectives, and methodology differ. Within the context of lifelong learning, significant issues of learning difficulties (e.g., dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, etc.) and disabilities (mobility issues, visual impairments, hearing impairments) will be highlighted, and ways in which individuals with specific learning characteristics or disabilities can be integrated into lifelong learning programs and gain significant educational, social, and psychological benefits will be presented. Lifelong learning is thus an inclusive process that allows individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to achieve their learning and educational goals.
