The fourth chapter presents the mission of the academic library with an emphasis on its educational character. Subsequently, this educational role will be thoroughly examined through the actions undertaken by modern academic libraries. Beginning with a brief historical review and citation of well-known academic libraries, the chapter presents the purposes of academic libraries, their fields of action, and concludes with a discussion on the challenges of the present and the foreseeable future.
