Abstract:
The first chapter focuses on the concept of education and consequently on teaching and learning. Specifically, it briefly describes the historical development of education in Greece, followed by the clarification of basic concepts and terms encountered in the field of education, with an emphasis on new forms and theories of learning arising from the internet and modern technological developments. This is followed by the presentation of the concepts of formal, non-formal, and informal education. The chapter concludes with further analysis of adult education, distance education or learning, and electronic education (e-education) or e-learning.
