Abstract:
This chapter introduces the technique of centrifugation, used for the separation and characterization of mixtures of biological particles and macromolecules, and routinely applied in biochemical laboratories. It begins with a brief overview of the physical laws governing centrifugation, followed by a description of the basic types of centrifuges. Next, the chapter presents the most important centrifugation techniques and their indicative applications in the separation and analysis of biological molecules. It concludes with a summary of the basic rules for centrifuge use.
