Chapter 4 analyzes the relationship between entrepreneurship and innovative activities through an examination of their impacts on competitiveness and economic development. The chapter thoroughly explores the framework within which enterprises invest in innovation to create new products or production processes, as well as to develop and maintain their capacity to adopt and exploit innovations made available by external sources. Subsequently, the interaction between entrepreneurship and the undertaking of innovative activities is examined, along with the process through which investments in Research and Technological Development (R&D) significantly contribute to enterprise performance and economic development by enhancing productivity and competitiveness. The chapter also presents and analyzes the historical evolution of entrepreneurial and innovative activities.
