Chapter 1 focuses on the presentation, study, and analysis of the key terms that fall within the conceptual framework of entrepreneurship and innovative activities at the level of European enterprises, within the context of the European Union. Subsequently, the main sectors of innovative activities are analyzed, along with the concept of technology, Product Innovation, Process Innovation, and the types of innovative activities. Furthermore, there is an analysis of Statistical Indicators for Science and Technology Measurements, with particular emphasis on certain key indicators for the statistical assessment of research and development. Next, the concept of Technological Progress is examined, both through technology production and the Transfer of New Technology. The chapter continues with an analysis of the National and Regional Innovation Systems and the framework they provide regarding the enhancement of economic efficiency and development.
