Description:
Abstract:
Chapter 9 is the fourth of a series of four chapters that focus on sonata form as a regulative framework that guided both the composition and the reception of the large-scale formal narratives of idiomatic Classical instrumental genres, such as the symphony, the quartet, the trio, and the solo and duo sonata. More specifically, it offers an introduction to the sonata theory of Hepokoski & Darcy (2006), focusing in particular on sonata type 5 (concerto sonata form).
