The fourth chapter describes, using specific examples, the long process of shifting the artistic disposition of cartoonists and comics creators towards the peculiar images of modernism and the avant-garde. Apart from this, the difficult path of osmosis between the ‘popular’ art of comics and ‘high’ art until their mutual acceptance is also described, which is ideally expressed in the work of Ad Reinhardt.
