In the first chapter, the most important terms related to the practice of artwork recontextualization are listed, including intertextuality and interpictoriality, as well as the often confusing concepts of parody, irony, pastiche, collage, appropriation, adaptation, intersemiotic translation, cultural recycling, etc. Finally, the course of recontextualizing practices in comics from the late 19th century to the present is summarized.
